The president of the Sampol Group has died at the age of 87, the group said in a statement on Monday. His death has caused deep sorrow throughout the business sector as he was one of the most beloved and relevant businessmen of the islands

The Sampol Group has remarked that the businessman has been “an example to follow, an inveterate optimist, unapproachable to discouragement and a great enjoyer of life. In addition to being a tireless worker, intelligent and a great fighter. He has gone happily, without pain, together with the love of his life, his wife, Paz, children and grandchildren”. This was stated in a press release on Monday.

Sampol, born in Montuïri (Mallorca) in 1936, was president of the Sampol Group, a company founded by his father José Sampol Arbona in 1934, which became one of the main multinationals dedicated to the energy sector.

Throughout its more than 88 years of history, the group has developed international projects in 22 countries and four continents. The group has a permanent presence in Spain, Italy, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Panama, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Aruba, Peru, Canada and Cape Verde.

Among others, Sampol received the Merit for Work medal in July 2011, highlighting his entrepreneurial spirit and absolute dedication to his work.
