The Conselleria de Famílies i Afers Socials has announced a subsidy with a maximum amount of 3.15 million euros aimed at non-profit organisations for the development of the “FSE+ Basic Material Assistance” programme, known as the food card. This programme, funded with support from the European Social Fund+ and framed within the investment objective for employment and growth in Spain for 2025, seeks to facilitate the provision and distribution of cards that allow the purchase of food, hygiene products and other essential items at various food establishments across Balears. According to the resolution published in the BOIB, these aids will ultimately be directed at families with children in their care.

Subsidies for the food card and other assistance projects

The director general of Afers Socials, Marina Fiscaletti, has emphasised that this call represents a step forward so that “food reaches all people who need it”. She also highlighted that these 3.15 million euros add to the 7 million that the Conselleria has allocated since December 2023 to calls for entities running food projects, in order to reach those who cannot access the food card programme because they do not have children in their care, differing from the criteria established by the Ministry.

During 2024 and 2025, the Conselleria has granted aid totalling 2,295,000 euros to entities that carry out activities distributing and handing out food, as well as social canteens. Of this amount, 1,159,000 euros come from 0.7% of the IRPF and corporate tax, and 1,136,000 euros correspond to Govern’s own funds. This aid adds to the 1.6 million approved in December 2023, also destined for projects running until 2025, thus consolidating a total effort close to 7 million euros to guarantee food assistance for those most in need in Balears.
