After yesterday’s kick-off of the sales in the Balearic Islands, today, Monday, the sales will also begin in small and medium-sized businesses on the islands. Businesses are expecting a good sales campaign this January.
According to Miquel Àngel Mateu, president of the PIMEM-Comercio association, the keys to the success of this sales campaign in small businesses are an aggressive pricing strategy and the sudden change in the weather in Mallorca, where it has gone from mild temperatures to winter cold. According to Mateu, the feeling of cold helps the purchase of items that until now were very difficult to sell.
Mateu explains that there are many establishments that have been accumulating a certain stock of thicker clothing such as coats, jumpers or trousers and winter accessories. “Somehow, we will have to dispose of all this material, and we expect a good price strategy for the consumer and with the good and personalised service that characterises small businesses,” he said.
On the other hand, small businesses want to convey to Cort the need to recover the parking vouchers to facilitate and reward the loyalty of Mallorcans who are committed to Palma’s small businesses.
And in the Los Geranios galleries, shopkeepers are finalising the last details so that customers who are committed to small businesses can enjoy the best prices. Some shops are starting the sales with optimism, but they believe that the discounts should take place later on. They claim that competition from large stores and, in particular, online sales, known in the sector as “invisible sales”, is leaving them at a disadvantage. They hope that the sales will encourage people to visit the shops in their neighbourhoods and help to keep alive the essence of the proximity of local commerce.
Yesterday, 7 January, the day after Epiphany, the winter sales began with discounts of up to 70% on some products.
