A few days before the dates of Sa Rua 2021 in Mallorca arrive, the question is whether the carnivals will be held. From the Palma City Council, they assure that they have nothing planned for Sa Rua and Sa Rueta in 2021 in the capital. The reason, the data that the pandemic throws. However, in November they announced that Sa Rua 2021 in Palma would be canceled. Not so Sa Rueta, the celebration for the little ones, which was in the air.

The councilor for Citizen Participation and Interior Government of Cort, Alberto Jarabo, already indicated that the City Council’s budgets did not include the celebration of carnivals in Palma. Therefore, like the Sant Sebastià festivities, Sa Rua and Sa Rueta will go unnoticed on the calendar.

The Marratxí City Council, for its part, has already failed the prizes of its Sa Rua 2021 Costume Contest. A celebration deeply rooted in the municipality that each year opens the acts of the Mallorca carnivals. Sa Rua has been digital this year due to health restrictions caused by the pandemic.

Sa Rua 2021 in Marratxí invited all the residents to participate in the costume contest through Instagram. The ‘marratxiners’ published their video of the costume on this social network indicating the category in which they participated and adding the hashtag # RuaMarratxí2021. The City Council suggested that the videos feature an original dance, music or other proposals to color this peculiar Sa Rua 2021 of the municipality.

On February 6, the virtual carnival parade took place with all the participants. A novel way to celebrate Sa Rua Mallorca 2021 within the framework of the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus.
