The Consell de Mallorca plans to begin construction of the new Campos roundabout in late 2026, at the exit from the town towards Santanyí and Colònia de Sant Jordi. The project has a budget of €1.6 million and aims to improve road safety and reduce congestion at a junction used by up to 25,000 vehicles a day during the summer.

The island authority has already put the works out to tender, with bids accepted until 2 November. The project will affect the junction between the Ma-19 towards Santanyí and the Ma-6040 towards Colònia de Sant Jordi, one of the most problematic points on the road network in this part of Mallorca.
The new infrastructure will replace the existing roundabout, which has safety and capacity problems due to increasing traffic volumes, particularly during the tourist season.
What work will be carried out on the Campos roundabout?
The project involves removing the existing roundabout and building a new one a few metres further along the road. With this change, the Consell de Mallorca aims to improve the junction layout and reduce the risk of accidents.
The main planned works include:
- Construction of a new roundabout between the Ma-19 and Ma-6040 roads.
- Demolition of the existing junction, considered a problem area because of its accident record and frequent traffic jams.
- Widening of the road to increase capacity and improve traffic flow.
- Reversal of the traffic direction on carrer de Sant Blai to accommodate the new road layout.
The improvements are intended to address the growing number of vehicles passing through this junction, particularly in summer, when journeys towards Santanyí and Colònia de Sant Jordi increase considerably.
When will construction begin and how will it affect traffic?
Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, once the tendering process has been completed. The Consell de Mallorca has not yet confirmed an exact start date or how long the works will take.
The project will be carried out in two phases. The first will involve clearing the area and installing temporary road signs. This will be followed by the demolition of the existing roundabout and construction of the new infrastructure.
During the works, the Consell plans to keep roads open to traffic wherever possible. However, diversions and temporary traffic changes may be introduced as construction progresses.
The island authority says these measures will be organised to maintain access to the different towns and villages and minimise disruption to drivers.
A junction used by 25,000 vehicles a day in summer
The junction between the roads to Santanyí and Colònia de Sant Jordi carries heavy traffic, reaching 25,000 vehicles a day during the summer season, according to figures from the Consell de Mallorca.
This high volume of traffic, combined with the layout of the existing roundabout, causes congestion and road safety problems.
With the new infrastructure, the Consell aims to increase the junction’s capacity, improve traffic flow and reduce accidents at one of the busiest access points to Campos.
