The Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) maintains its position in 2023 in the 601-700 best universities in the world, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) prepared by the Jia Tong University of Shanghai. It thus improves positions compared to 2022 and equals the result obtained in 2021. In areas such as oceanography and tourism and hotel management, the UIB manages to stand out in the 76-100 bracket.

The ranking, which is published every August, does not include any Spanish university among the 200 best in the world in 2023. It thus loses three educational institutions in the list of the top 300. Among the Spanish universities, the highest-ranked is the University of Barcelona, followed by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Granada.

Among the five best universities in the world, four are American and one is British. In first place, a position it has held for 21 consecutive years, is Harvard University. It is followed by Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Cambridge and the University of California, Berkeley.
