Cuatro Jinetes’, by Mucha Muchacha, opens the program on September 14th, and ‘Reis del món’ returns with a double bill on the 16th and 17th of this month. The new 2023/2024 season of Palma’s Teatre Principal kicks off with 52 shows featuring theater, music, dance and opera

The season kicks off at the Teatre Principal de Palma with a total of 52 shows that make up the programming of the course 2023/2024. The vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca and councilor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, stressed that the Principal opens its doors to all citizens of the island, for all ages and all tastes, because “culture is and has to be for everyone”.

The aim of Roca’s cultural project is that all residents of the island come this season to the public hall to enjoy some of the performances. The vice-president and councilor insists that the Teatre Principal de Palma has to be the nerve center of the performing arts in Mallorca and, in this line, has announced that the Consell de Mallorca is working on different initiatives to encourage the influx of public. In this sense, he has shown his willingness to launch a project of musealization of the public hall: “we want the corridors of the theater to tell its history with emblematic posters and props that are now stored. In this way, it will also be made available to Mallorcans”.

In addition, Antònia Roca explained that, for the first time, the Teatre Principal will open its doors during the Nit de l’Art to exhibit the work Las musas del Principal. This, accompanied by music to the rhythm of jazz. Therefore, she encourages Mallorcans to include the Principal in their artistic night route next Saturday, September 23.

Cuatro Jinetes and Reis del món kick off the season

The public theater gets underway this Thursday, September 14, with the premiere of ‘Four Horsemen’, a co-production of the Mucha Muchacha troupe and Palma’s Teatre Principal. The folklore and traditional dances of Spain merge with new contemporary trends in this dance show that features live music by Los Voluble.

The Teatro Principal’s program continues on Saturday, September 16th and Sunday 17th with the revival of ‘Reis del món’, the theatrical version of the novel of the same name by Sebastià Alzamora, which was one of the big hits with audiences last season. Reis del món’, with dramaturgy by Josep Maria Miró and direction by José Martret, is a play performed by Blai Llopis, Carme Conesa, Toni Gomila and Jordi Figueras. In addition to the performances at Palma’s Teatre Principal, this production of the Teatre Principal will also be staged at the Teatre d’Artà on September 22 and at the Teatre des Born in Ciutadella on October 1.
