The Fira de Pollença 2022 reaches its XXXIX edition, highlighting the primary sector and local crafts. The “Mè de Pollença” will be the protagonist of the fair, which will be held from the 11th to the 14th of November. The programme of activities will be divided into three main areas: the Cloister of San Domingo, the Plaza Mayor and Calle Coronel Aloney, where the Cooperativa Campesina is located, the main protagonist of this Fira de Pollença 2022. There will also be ‘merxandets’ in different streets and the attractions of Vía Argentina.
This year, consolidated activities will continue, such as the XX/21 Space in the Cloister. This is a combination of design and craftwork that shows the 21st century dimension of these disciplines. In addition, the City Council has organised the first edition of the XX/21 Awards for design, crafts and sustainability aimed at students of the Balearic School of Art and Design. Sheep’s wool is proposed as the material to work with.
Another new feature of the Fira de Pollença 2022 is the tribute to the promoters of the craft fair, which will be to Jaume Cànaves “Colonya”. The councillor for Fairs, Miquel Llobeta, explained that this year they wanted to focus on the primary sector as the central axis, specifically the “Mè de Pollença”. For this reason, he declared that “this year’s fair promises to be a great success”. This sector will be shown in all its splendour: gastronomy, culture and crafts of Pollença. In fact, the first “Cooking with Mè” competition has been programmed.
History of the Fira de Pollença
The Fira de Pollença is held on the fourth Sunday after Saint Luke’s Day – 18th October. The first documentary evidence of this tradition dates back to 1367. In 1984, the first Crafts Fair was created in the cloister of Santo Domingo. It is a pioneering model of a fair with the participation of master craftsmen and craftswomen and workshops.
