The King has proposed as candidate for the investiture the socialist Pedro Sánchez after the new round of consultations that has concluded this Tuesday. The president of the Congress, Francina Armengol, has explained that she will listen to Sánchez’s proposal to set the date of the plenary session, which cannot be later than November 27th
After closing the round of consultations, the King has proposed as candidate for investiture the socialist Pedro Sanchez for his “willingness to be a candidate in a new process of investiture”. The socialist leader counts on the 121 favorable votes of his party, to which he expects to add those of Sumar (31), ERC (7), Junts (7), EH Bildu (6), PNV (5) and BNG (1) and Coalición Canaria (1).
In order to achieve them, Sánchez has assured that tomorrow he will start contacts with the different parliamentary groups. Thus, he will begin negotiations with the leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, tomorrow in Congress.
Asked about the negotiation of an amnesty, Sánchez assured that the time has come “of politics” and “of generosity”.
For his part, the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, criticized that “Sánchez has less support than a month ago” and predicted that “We have weeks of dark negotiations and many lies ahead of us”.
Regarding the deadlines for the investiture, this has to take place before Monday, November 27 to avoid a new general election, before two months, when Feijóo’s first vote was on September 27. After the King’s proposal to Sánchez to seek support for a new Government, the Socialist candidate will now have 55 days to achieve it.
