The Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition in Palma, “Cinema and Fashion”, is the star show at CaixaForum Palma for these months. Until the 7th of January 2024, “Cinema and fashion. By Jean Paul Gaultier”, proposes an eclectic journey that intertwines cinema and fashion with great creators and artists, from the personal point of view of the ‘enfant terrible’ as a costume designer and film buff. For his arrival at CaixaForum Palma, Gaultier has paid tribute to Spanish cinema and fashion with nods to figures of reference for him such as Pedro Almodóvar, Rossy de Palma, Sara Montiel, Balenciaga, Paco Rabanne and even Don Quixote. With a sociological approach and beyond mythomania, the exhibition delves into the context of the creation of film costumes and emphasises key aspects such as female empowerment and its reflection in 20th century fashion and filmography.

“Cinema and Fashion. By Jean Paul Gaultier” brings together 57 iconic film looks with works by designers of the stature of Coco Chanel, Balenciaga, Pierre Cardin and Sybilla, as well as creations by Gaultier himself; dresses by Sharon Stone, Catherine Deneuve and Madonna; the costumes of Superman, The Mask of Zorro and Rocky, as well as audiovisual projections, original posters and photographs. The French designer acts as artistic director of the exhibition, as well as co-curator alongside Florence Tissot and Matthieu Orléan, film experts from La Cinémathèque Française. The Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition in Palma is organised by the “la Caixa” Foundation and La Cinémathèque Française.
