The Sa Nostra Culture Centre is hosting the exhibition of the winner of the Mallorca Contemporary Photography Prize 2021 dedicated to the Danube Delta. The exhibition, organised by the Archive of Sound and Image of the Consell de Mallorca, is part of the programme of La Nit de l’Art 2022.
The exhibition opens on Thursday the 15th of September at 6:30 pm at the Sa Nostra Culture Centre and can be visited until the 30th of November. Admission is free.
Italian artist Camilla de Maffei’s photographic work Delta consists of a set of 140 images and an ethnographically inspired narrative structured in 33 field notes. For five years, the author explored the Danube Delta, the largest river delta in Europe, with quality, forceful and rooted images.
De Maffei uses a language that oscillates between anthropological observation and symbolic transfiguration to draw her own map of the territory: an interpretation that transcends the physical and geographical reality of the marshes to question the deepest meaning of the act of inhabiting.
Since 2009, Camilla de Maffei has focused her work on the Balkan area, developing long-term projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Albania. In particular, her work revolves around territories, identities and borders, drawing on personal narratives to explore the landscape from a geopolitical, social and emotional perspective.
