Since yesterday, EMT Palma has been free of charge for all residents of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. This measure, which is a key part of the social shield designed jointly with the Government, aims to respond to the economic and social consequences of the war in Ukraine, which has led to higher inflation.
EMT Palma stresses that in order to access the free travel card it is necessary to be a holder of a citizen’s card and to have it updated. For this reason, they remind users to check the expiry date of their profile on their website. In this regard, they remind users that expired profiles do not allow them to enjoy the free travel card.
To clarify doubts about the entry into force of the free travel card, EMT Palma has published a decalogue of frequently asked questions that is posted on the EMT Palma website and will be disseminated through different channels. This informative decalogue reminds users that the free travel includes all lines, including those with special fares such as the port and the Airport and the M1 Metro, which will also be free with the citizens’ card, with the same profiles accepted until now.
The Palma City Council and the EMT remind all users that the card does not expire and that it will continue to be available indefinitely.
The citizen’s card is available to all residents of Palma and to all residents of other city councils with an agreement in force, such as Calvià, Marratxí and Llucmajor.
The EMT of Palma is already free and joins the TIB, the train and the metro which are also free during the year 2023. In this way, 100% of public transport in the Balearic Islands is free this year with the aim of encouraging the use of public transport and trying to alleviate the effects of inflation and the rise in fuel prices.
