The municipal transport company recorded one million more passengers in January than in the same month last year, since the service became free of charge on 1 January

The EMT boosts the number of users in January, gaining more than one million passengers this month, with a 53% increase in users compared to the same month in 2022, a total of 1,086,694 users.

This January, a total of 3,105,818 million users have benefited from the free service since it came into force on 1 January 2023, thanks to the subsidy granted by the central government to the Balearic Islands and the transfer committed by Palma City Council. A figure that last year was 2,019,124 users.

The districts with the most passengers

The growth is essentially in neighbourhood lines, many of which have had more than 50,000 more passengers in the same month than in 2022. Among the most used are the L5 Es Rafal Nou-Plaça Progrés with 99,953 users, with an increase of 57.73% of users; the L7 Son Gotleu-Son Serra-La Vileta, with 96,310 users, an increase of 43.76%; or L4 Ses Illetes-Plaça Columnes, with 91,691 users and an increase of 46.99% of passengers.

According to the municipal transport company, these are the best results recorded in the recent historical series and the number of passengers carried in January 2019, before the pandemic, has been surpassed.
