The Christmas markets in Palma open their doors on Friday the 18th of November. A total of 194 stalls will remain open until the 6th of January 2023 from 10:00 to 21:00. This 2022 there are 62 more stalls as the space they occupy has been extended and the distribution that existed before the pandemic has been restored. For example, in the Plaza Mayor, the number of stalls has increased from 14 in 2021 to the current 50.
This year’s Christmas and Epiphany fair in Palma will have five locations, one less than last year. The Plaça del Mercat is eliminated, but the markets in Plaça d’Espanya, Major, Porta Pintada, La Rambla and Via Roma will remain. The Palma Christmas and Epiphany fair will be present in all of them, the aim of which is to maintain the Christmas tradition. Crafts are also encouraged, especially products that are original and unique. Not forgetting those that have special value from an environmental, solidarity and social point of view.
As usual, the markets on the Rambla, Via Roma, Plaça d’Espanya and Plaça de la Porta Pintada will sell ceramics, leather, engravings, jewellery, carpentry, metalwork, textiles, art, etc., as well as food products.
The one in the Plaza Mayor is the nativity market, where the public can find nativity scenes and cribs, Christmas trees, decorative candles, artificial flowers, toys and decorative objects typical of this time of year.
As for the number of stalls, the number of stalls in the Plaza de España will increase from 49 last year to the current 58. The Plaza Mayor will have 50, compared to 14 in 2021, and 10 in the Puerta Pintada, two more than last year. On the Rambla there will be a total of 49 stalls, compared to 36 last year, and on Via Roma the number of stalls will increase from 15 to 27.
Novelties in Palma’s Christmas markets
The appearance of the stalls is different in some places this year, with the incorporation of wooden casemented borders with Christmas motifs. Likewise, this year the infrastructures department has incorporated Christmas lighting elements in the different Christmas markets in Palma to provide the area with a more atmospheric setting.
