The edition of the Fira de S’Oliva de Caimari, which takes place on November 20 and 21, this year presents the Ajuntament de Selva as a member of “” Routes of the olive tree “, cultural itinerary of the Council of Europe with the protection of UNESCO, which places the town within the route of the Mediterranean olive trees.

This is one of the main novelties of the party that will also feature a poetry space, a photo contest, a sample of local gastronomy and the performance of the Ameyal musical group in Plaça Major, as well as spaces for tasting and olive sales.

“The S’Oliva de Caimari Fair is also the fruit of the effort of a whole people who live and work the land, and which we appreciate more today, after the health crisis, valuing the importance of the preservation of traditions and of the jobs and trades of the field, without neglecting the incorporation of technological means ”, expressed Tòfol Barceló, batle de Caimari.

“The cultivation of the olive tree and the production and consumption of olive oil has historically a great tradition in Mallorca. In fact, many farms lived on oil and now it has also come to play a key role in our days, not only as a basic ingredient for food but as a product of exchange and export. We must recognize the work carried out by the peasants who year after year are improving their crops and recovering the olive groves typical of our environment and the Serra de Tramuntana, which this year celebrates the tenth anniversary of the declaration as Cultural Heritage of Humanity added.
