The businessmen affected by the works of the Paseo Marítimo in Palma have expressed their dissatisfaction with the economic losses of their businesses and warn of closures due to the works, which have already affected 30% of the companies
From the Confederation of Balearic Business Associations (CAEB), which brings together restaurateurs, hoteliers, merchants, transport, marinas, maritime activities and nightlife, they denounce that they are still charged the terrace tax when they can’t even set them up and the same thing happens with the garbage tax.
After the COVID, this situation is unsustainable
Businessmen warn of the future closure of many businesses in the coming weeks if these problems persist. They also demand that they be told there would be four phases of works by zones but that they have finally started the works at once and the entire Paseo Marítimo is fenced.
They fear the proximity of Holy Week and hope that the mobility issue will be resolved as soon as possible through the deterrent parking.
For its part, the Balearic Port Authority (APB) has warned businessmen that it will impose a monthly fee on terraces of 5 euros per square meter and that a weekend rate of one euro per square meter has been created. According to them, the terraces do not pay taxes since December 31 because they are being processed. And they propose measures of flexibility, such as discounts for the impact of the fence.
