The Biennial of Thought will be held simultaneously in Palma, Barcelona and Valencia during the second week of October. The three Mediterranean capitals will debate issues such as the way in which physical space has to respond to current and future challenges, the health of democracy and the survival of colonialism. Based on shared thematic axes, each city has adapted the programme to its own idiosyncrasies. Thus, they will include common activities such as a simultaneous reading of the work of Joan Fuster, Gabriel Ferrater and Blai Bonet.
The coincidence is the result of the desire of Palma, Barcelona and Valencia to strengthen ties based on a common culture, in addition to stimulating civic debate. Three editions of the same event driven by a common spirit. The biennials will address issues that affect cities as a whole, within the framework of the great global urban and social debates. But also those that have to do more specifically with the cultural space that all three capitalise on.
The Biennial of Thought is a cultural project that works for an open city. Its main mission is to take the debate out of its more usual formats and involve the whole of the citizenry, based on the conviction that the governance of the city must be based on dialogue and shared reflection. The Biennial sessions, which are open to the public space, will be held in a format of dialogue between specialists, with round tables, debates and conferences, as well as artistic activities, whether in the form of exhibitions or performances.
