The celebration of the Chinese New Year in Palma 2024 will change location. This festival, promoted by the Chinese Association of the Balearic Islands, Achinib, will take place in Pere Garau. Thus, on the 11th of February from 10:00 am, the Palma neighbourhood will take over from Nuredduna to commemorate the entry into the Chinese calendar of the year of the wooden dragon. A majestic beast in Chinese culture.
Pere Garau will host an expanded fair with more marquees and cultural concerts on Sunday 11 February. According to the president of Achinib, Fang Ji, the change of venue is because “we were born in Pere Garau and also last year Nuredduna turned out to be a narrow street for the volume of visitors we had”. Thus, Ji considered this new location to be safer for celebrating Chinese New Year in Palma this 2024.
The Chinese New Year, an example of respect
According to the mayor, Jaime Martínez, during the presentation of the Chinese New Year in Palma, the aim of this event is “to try to go beyond mere coexistence. It is about finding a deep and respectful understanding within the differences that separate us. As well as understanding and appreciating different cultural perspectives as a valuable resource that enriches our lives and strengthens the social fabric”.
On the other hand, ONCE will launch a special coupon which for the first time in Spain refers to a theme outside the country. It will be a tribute coupon for the Chinese New Year on 8 February.
In total there are an estimated 3,500 Chinese residents in Palma. So both the Chinese themselves and the residents of the city will be able to enjoy this colourful festival celebrating the arrival of the Chinese New Year in Palma.
