Film music will take centre stage in Palma on 24 September at 20:00 with Música de Cinema (Film Music), a concert by the Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears (OSIB) at the Teatre Principal. The evening will feature some of the best-known soundtracks in cinema history, with José Luis Garci and Inocencio Arias as narrators.

This film music concert will combine performances by the Simfònica with contributions from Garci, the first Spanish filmmaker to win an Oscar, and diplomat Inocencio Arias. Both will accompany the musical journey with stories about the films and the background to some of the compositions.

Tickets for Música de Cinema are already on sale through the Simfònica website and at the Teatre Principal box office. The event joins Palma’s September concert programme with a performance aimed at both film enthusiasts and fans of symphonic music.

A film soundtrack concert in Palma, from Harry Potter to Titanic

The programme will begin with the celebrated overture from North by Northwest by Bernard Herrmann, one of the great composers of film music and closely associated with Alfred Hitchcock’s films.

John Williams will be represented by two of his most popular works: a suite from Harry Potter and Schindler’s List. Other soundtracks that can be heard in Palma that evening include the suite from Titanic by James Horner and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly by Ennio Morricone.

The Música de Cinema programme will also devote a significant part of the evening to musicals:
