The security report for Calvià during the 2024 season highlights a 12.3% reduction in recorded crimes compared to the previous year, translating to 556 criminal cases and 283 arrests between 1 April and 30 September. The Local Police have made significant efforts in road safety and intensified their fight against drug trafficking and illegal street vending, improving the overall sense of security in the municipality.
Decrease in crimes and increase in arrests
During this period, a total of 556 crimes were recorded, a significant decrease compared to the 634 crimes committed in 2023. Of the 283 people arrested, 136 are Spanish nationals, while 147 are of foreign origin.
The most frequent crimes were related to road safety, with 166 reports, of which 102 were for drunk driving and 6 for drug-related offences. Additionally, 11 vehicle thefts were reported.
Focus on the fight against drug trafficking
The main offence leading to arrests was drug trafficking, with 75 individuals apprehended. Although there was a slight decrease in the number of arrests compared to 99 in 2023, drug trafficking remains a significant challenge in the municipality.
Reduction in thefts and robberies
There were 69 reports of thefts and robberies, mostly from commercial establishments and beaches, resulting in the arrest of 22 individuals. This figure represents a 65% reduction compared to 2023, when 64 arrests were made. The drop is even more pronounced when compared to the 108 arrests in 2022.
Sanctions and control of illegal activities
The Local Police of Calvià have also stepped up their efforts in issuing fines, with a total of 1,911 fines issued during the same period. Illegal street vending resulted in 892 fines, along with the seizure of counterfeit goods. On the other hand, fines for balconing have significantly decreased, from 34 in 2022 to just 7 in 2024.
Other reasons for fines include breaching closing times, with 28 establishments fined, and noise disturbances, resulting in 77 fines. Additionally, there were fines for drinking alcohol in public places (42) and unauthorised alcohol advertising.
Decrease in phone requests
For the first time in three years, there has been a decrease in the number of phone requests to 112/092. Between January and September 2024, 15,130 requests were recorded, a figure lower than in previous years. High-priority alerts, which include emergencies such as fights, fires, and assaults, totalled 5,228, remaining at similar levels to 2023.
