The Winter Classical Music Festival of Mallorca programmes a variety of performances from the 1st of October to the 16th of November. Singers and musicians from the Balearic Islands and other territories will come together at the event. Organised by the cultural association Euroclàssics, this 27th edition will feature six performances. All of them will take place in venues such as the Teatro Principal in Inca, the Sa Nostra Cultural Centre, the Monti-Sion Church in Pollença, the Ireneu Espectáculos Theatre and the José L. Ferrer Winery in Binissalem.
Winter Classical Music Festival Programme
Alma de la Traviata by Verdi. 1st October at the Bodegas José L. Ferrer. Featuring soprano Nuria Villano, tenor José Manuel Sánchez, baritone Lluís Sintes and pianist Francesc Blanco. Musical direction by Maria Victòria Cortès and stage direction by Eugenia Corbacho. This work can also be enjoyed on 9th October at the Teatro Principal in Inca.
The second production comes on 15th October at the Sa Nostra Cultural Centre. A recital of opera and zarzuela, with Mallorcan mezzo-soprano María Luisa Corbacho, tenor Joan Laínez and pianist Maria Victòria Cortès. This is the first performance on the island by Mallorcan María Luisa Corbacho in five years. They will perform works by G. Verdi, R. Leoncavallo and J. Serrano, among others.
On 23rd October, the Teatro Principal of Inca will host the great production of the season: Carmina Burana, by Carl Orff. Under the direction of conductor Felipe Aguirre, the Orfeón el Harpa de Inca, the Coro Euroclàssics, the pianists Francesc Blanco and M. Victòria Cortès, the soprano Máriam Guerra, the tenor José Manuel Sánchez, the baritone Lluís Sintes, and the Ensemble de percussion Euroclàssics will perform.
Zarzuela with the choir is the fourth event of the Festival. A concert that will take place on 5th November in the Sa Nostra Cultural Centre. It will feature tenor Joan Laínez, soprano Nadia Akaârir, pianist M. Victòria Cortès and the Orfeón el Harpa de Inca.
On 13th November comes the most international proposal of the Festival: the soprano Alexandra Lowe. She will perform in the Church of Monti-Sion in Pollença. She will be accompanied by the Mallorcan pianist Francesc Blanco. Lowe has just come off a work programme at the Royal Opera House in London and has an active career of great importance.
The sixth and final production of this 27th Winter Classical Music Festival is Cantando a las poetas del 27, a concert by singer and pianist Sheila Blanco, with the collaboration of pianist Francesc Blanco. The show will take place on 16 November at the Teatro Ireneu Espectáculos.
