The labour disputes at Vueling and Air Nostrum are affecting the flight schedule this holiday season. Especially flights in the Balearic Islands with connections to the mainland and the United Kingdom.

In addition, other companies such as Ryanair and Jet2 have initiated a massive cancellation in the Balearics due to conflicts with cabin crew and pilots on air routes connecting the islands with the mainland and the UK.

According to a statement from Air Nostrum, “The SEPLA strike forces Air Nostrum to cancel 78 flights between Thursday and Friday”. It should be noted that the company maintains 79% of the operation due to the minimum services decreed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for the first two days of stoppages.

The strike has been called for the days before Christmas, 22 and 23 December.

The airline will publish later this week the flights cancelled for next week’s stoppages on 26, 27, 29 and 30 December. Two new strike days have also been called for 2 and 3 January. These new days will affect the inter-island routes of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, as well as their connections to mainland Spain.

Air Nostrum has announced that customers who have been affected by these cancellations will be eligible for a rebooking of their flight or full reimbursement of their tickets.

In addition, other airlines have announced strike days which will affect the operation of flights to the islands. Ryanair and Vueling cover a large part of the air routes in Europe and with them the connection with the Balearic Islands. These stoppages will affect one of the most important days of the year in terms of air traffic as it coincides with the return home or holidays of many Balearic residents, as well as low season tourists.
