The VII OUT! LGTBIQ+ Film Festival of the Balearic Islands will be held from 11 to 19 September 2024 in Palma, where it has established itself as a must-attend event for LGTBIQ+ cinema. This year, the festival kicks off with the premiere of the film Levante by Brazilian director Lillah Halla, winner of the FIPRESCI award at Cannes.

Inaugural Gala: a cinematic start

The opening gala, which will take place on 11 September at 8:00 pm at the Xesc Forteza Theatre, will feature actors Apolonia Serra and Joan Miquel Artigues as presenters. During the ceremony, the OUT! Award will be presented to Daniel Fernández Pozo, also known as La Dani, a renowned non-binary artist. Following the award ceremony, attendees will enjoy music by Mallorcan DJ Xisca Garau (Xisk).

Featured screenings and events

The LGTBIQ+ film showcase includes a total of 19 titles, comprising three feature-length fiction films, two documentaries, and fourteen short films in competition. Some of the most anticipated screenings and events are:

  • 12 September: Screening of the official fiction short film section at CineCiutat at 7:00 pm, featuring titles such as Los domingos que quedan, Caçada, and AyÜn, among others.
  • 13 September: Screening of the official documentary short film section at CineCiutat at 7:00 pm, including works such as Don’t cry for me all you drag queens and Anhel de Llum.
  • 14 September: Screening of All the Colours of the World are Between Black and White at 7:00 pm at CineCiutat, winner of the Teddy Award at the Berlinale, followed by Unicorns at 9:00 pm, a UK film about forbidden romance.

Parallel activities at the LGTBIQ+ Film Festival

OUT! will also offer a series of complementary activities that focus on diversity and inclusion:

  • 17 September: Screening of the documentary Soy Visible at the Auditorium of Es Baluard at 7:00 pm, in collaboration with the ALAS association.
  • 19 September: Presentation of the book El chico de los ojos grises at the Ínsula Literària bookstore at 7:00 pm, with the presence of the author Milán Rodríguez.

Expansion to other municipalities

The LGTBIQ+ film showcase will also reach other locations, with the screening of Two Eyes on 28 September at the Teatre Principal de Inca and a selection of short films at the Teatre Sa Teulera de Andratx on 13 October.
