From 5 to 8 March the Balearic Islands will be taking part in one of the most important international tourism fairs: the ITB in Berlin. With a stand of almost 600 square metres, the Balearic Islands will be showcasing the tourism offerings of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, with special emphasis on the value of cultural and sports tourism, which will be particularly prominent at this year’s fair.
In addition to the Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera Island Councils’ own stands, the Balearic Islands’ stand will also include the presence of various local councils from the islands, as well as private co-exhibitors (Roig Drive Mallorca, Clevertryp Transfers, OK mobility, Melià International, Blau Hotels and Adramar incoming).
At ITB Berlin 2024, Mallorca will try to position itself as a sustainable destination, highlighting the gastronomic product and promoting the island as a first-class audiovisual stage. The Balearic delegation will be led by the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, together with the First Vice-President and Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, the Councillor for Tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez, and the Director of Tourism for Demand and Hospitality, Susanna Sciacovelli, among other authorities.
Programme of activities
On 4 March, President Galmés, Councillor Rodríguez and Director Sciacovelli will meet with the tour operator TUI at its headquarters in the German capital.
One day later, on the first official day of the fair, Mallorca Preservation will be presented to the Responsible Tourism Pledge, in line with the Consell de Mallorca’s strategy of reinforcing sustainable tourism policies. Mallorca Preservation was founded in 2027 and advocates the protection of the natural environment and the prosperity of the local community, ‘objectives perfectly aligned with those of the Consell de Mallorca’s tourism department’, the Consell de Mallorca said in a statement.
Directly related to this issue, a joint initiative with Palma City Council will be presented on Wednesday 6 March. On the same day, the Consell delegation is expected to hold several meetings with some of the main tour operators attending the event (RTK, Alltours, FTI Touristik and Schauinsland, among others), who will provide information on the situation of the German market for Mallorca in the coming season.
On the evening of 6 March there will also be a networking dinner (Mallorca in essence) attended by representatives of the tourism and business sector. The event will take place at the KaDeWe in Berlin and will feature a special guest: Austrian actor Julian Looman, star of the Netflix series Mallorca Files. During the evening he is expected to speak about his experience of filming in Mallorca.
Michelin-starred chef Santi Taura will prepare the dishes for a dinner that will bring together a total of 150 guests and will serve Mallorcan produce and wines from the islands.
