In March, the Balearic Islands led the way in terms of unemployment and job creation in Spain, with the largest decreases in unemployment and the largest increases in Social Security enrolment of all the regions of the country, both in comparison with February and with respect to March 2022

The average number of Social Security affiliates in the islands last month was 493,459 people, 26,139 more than in March last year, a year-on-year increase of 5.59%.

In terms of unemployment, the reduction compared to March last year was 31.84 %, with a figure of 33,731 people registered as unemployed at the end of the month. Compared with February, the number of affiliated persons grew by 6.44% in March, with an increase in absolute terms of 29,853 workers. Unemployment fell by 4.17 % in the Balearic Islands from February to March, with 1,469 people leaving the unemployment rolls, according to data released on Tuesday by the government.

These data for March, in the month in which hiring begins to be activated in view of Easter and the strongest months of the tourist season, is “especially positive” in an economic context of uncertainty, according to the Ministry of Labour. Thus, by economic sector, unemployment fell in all sectors, although the bulk of the decline was in services, with 42,789 fewer unemployed. By sex, female unemployment fell by 25,897 women to 1.71 million, while male unemployment fell by 22,858 men to 1.14 million.
