The Balearic Islands continue to lead Spain in job creation and unemployment reduction. The islands closed the month of August with 30,131 people unemployed, according to the latest data published on Monday 4 September by the Government of the Balearics

In August, the Balearic Islands repeated the best year-on-year figures of all the Spanish regions in terms of job creation and unemployment reduction, with an increase in Social Security enrolment of 4.42% and a fall in unemployment of 15.74%.

The islands closed last month with an average number of 633,234 workers and 30,131 people registered on the unemployment rolls. This is shown by the data published on Monday 4 September by the Government.

Compared to July this year, the number of workers registered with Social Security fell by 2,124 people, a drop of 0.33%, almost a third of the monthly fall in Spain as a whole, which was 0.89%.

Compared with July this year, unemployment rose by 953 persons, 3.27 %, the highest relative growth in the country, where the monthly average was 0.93 % and the year-on-year fall was 7.6 %.

The month of August in Spain as a whole, usually a bad month for the labour market, saw an average of 185,385 fewer people registered with Social Security and 24,826 more unemployed registered with the public employment services. This breaks a streak of five consecutive months of falling unemployment and record enrolment figures.
