The Teatre Principal of Palma closed the 2025/26 season with 61,494 spectators, the highest attendance figure in recent years. This represents an increase of 1.9% compared with the previous season, when the theatre welcomed 60,363 people. The Mallorcan theatre has therefore consolidated the growth trend seen over recent seasons, driven by a more diverse programme, consistently high occupancy rates and strengthened educational, social and accessibility initiatives.

Between September 2025 and July 2026, the theatre achieved an average occupancy rate of 70%. During that period it staged 122 productions and events across 174 performances. The programme also included nine morning performances, four open dress rehearsals and five productions presented outside its main venue.
The Teatre Principal of Palma strengthens its growing programme
Antònia Roca, Vice-President of the Consell de Mallorca and Councillor for Culture and Heritage, said the results “confirm that the model adopted by the Consell de Mallorca is delivering results: a Teatre Principal managed with professional standards and offering an independent, diverse and high-quality programme designed to reach every audience”.
Roca also highlighted that once again surpassing the previous attendance record reflects the public’s enthusiastic response and reinforces the goal of establishing the theatre as one of Mallorca’s leading cultural institutions.
Tosca tops a season of sell-out performances
The opera Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini, attracted the largest audience of the season with 2,865 spectators, followed closely by Rigoletto. In the theatre programme, the in-house production L’enemic, by Henrik Ibsen and directed by José Martret, was the most popular play, drawing 1,733 spectators.
The season also featured numerous sell-out performances, including Tosca, Gegant, Cyrano, La corte de Faraón, Memorias de Adriano and Rigoletto.
Another landmark of the season was the first performance of an opera by Richard Wagner in the history of Teatre Principal. Der fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman) received an excellent reception from both audiences and critics.
More educational activities, improved accessibility and a wider presence across Mallorca
Alongside its artistic programme, Teatre Principal de Palma further strengthened its educational and social role throughout the season. Its morning performances, theatre mentoring initiatives and guided and theatrical tours attracted 1,626 participants, including school pupils, families and the general public.
The theatre’s social engagement programme continued to bring the performing arts to new audiences. It included performances in IMAS residential care homes and free performances as part of the Principal a la Fresca programme. The theatre also expanded its accessible performances and introduced new measures for people with hearing, visual and physical disabilities.
This was complemented by Principal en Xarxa, together with touring productions, which brought 13 productions in 22 performances to municipalities across the Balearic Islands. Productions such as Gegant, La corona d’espines, El malalt imaginari, L’enemic and the opera La voix humaine were staged at venues including Teatre de Manacor, Teatre des Born in Ciutadella and Teatre Principal d’Inca.
Teatre Principal de Palma Director Miquel Martorell thanked audiences for their support and praised the work of the entire team, describing the figures as “the result of a collective effort”. He added that the public’s continued backing encourages the institution to maintain the highest artistic standards and further establish itself as “the home of the performing arts and a cultural benchmark for everyone in Mallorca”.
