The ”la Caixa” Foundation hosts the Summer Nights program at CaixaForum Palma. During the months of July and August, summer poetry and music proposals will land in the center, with surprising and unique small and medium-format shows.

On July 20, the result of the artistic union between Enric Casasses and Don Simón y Telefunken will be seen in the show Orbiten, which includes 19 songs based on 17 short poems and two silences (two instrumental songs). Casasses is one of the most relevant Catalan poets of the moment. For their part, Don Simón and Telefunken are two musicians who define their style as “traditional space music”, capable of interpreting the typical instruments of a rock band and a host of other experimental instruments from which they know how to extract a genuine sound.

The appointment with the CaixaForum Palma Summer Nights will close on August 3 with the proposal of the poet Mireia Calafell and the composer and cellist Björt, who will take the show Varosha to the stage. The proposal, which unites the recited word with the music, part of the town on the island of Cyprus that was left uninhabited after the 1974 Turkish invasion. The show provides an opportunity to think about a new way of doing, of being and of asking ourselves about us.

A summer of films

The program of these Summer Nights in Palma will be complemented by the series of projections A summer of film, where you will be able to enjoy a careful selection of recently awarded films. On July 15 it will be the turn of the film by director Rohena Gera “Señor” (India and France, 2018) that explores the class division in India through a relationship that breaks the barriers of social conventions. The cycle will close on July 29 with “The Farewell” (USA, 2019), by director Lulu Wang, a film that focuses on a young American daughter of Chinese immigrants and her trip to deal with family expectations and the roots of it.

Summer nights and micro-concerts

The offer for the summer nights will be complemented by the Microconcerts, the format that has been consolidated in CaixaForum Palma in previous editions and that offers local musicians and groups to do a small-format concert in the same cultural center. For this, a professional jury has made a selection of musical proposals through the Call for musical performances CaixaForum 2020.

On Saturday, July 10, at 7:00 p.m., it will be the turn of Morgana Jazz Trío in the CaixaForum auditorium. The Mallorcan jazz trio, made up entirely of women, will perform a repertoire that combines rhythms from soul music, bossa nova and pop. For its part, Kings of New Orleans will play on Saturday, July 24 at 7:00 p.m. The duo will perform a dynamic repertoire that focuses on the classic melodies of New Orleans music and Dr. John, one of the great musicians of this genre.

The cultural center recommends planning and booking in advance the visits of these Summer Nights in Palma through the CaixaForum Palma website to guarantee respect for sanitary and capacity measures.
