The Copa del Rey (King’s Cup) sailing regatta held in Mallorca reaches its 40th edition in 2022. One of the most important regattas in the Mediterranean and an unmissable event in Mallorca. Organised by the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the Spanish Sailing Federation, the Copa del Rey Mapfre 2022 kicks off its agenda of social events on Friday 29 July. The regattas will take place from the 1st to the 6th of August.

Social agenda of the 40th Sailing King’s cup

The ribbon cutting has put the finishing touch to the official inauguration of the 40th Copa del Rey Mapfre in Palma. It marks the start of the three events scheduled for this weekend prior to the start of the regattas. The social programme will be followed by the inauguration of the sustainability plan exhibition on Saturday 30th at 13:00. And finally, the presentation of the commemorative book of the 40th edition, at 18:30. The events will continue until the end of the competition on 6 August.

“As in 2021, participation is once again at pre-pandemic figures, with more than a hundred teams from 20 countries eager to sail and compete,” said Emerico Fuster, president of the Real Club Náutico de Palma. “Thanks to all of you who help to spread the word about what we do and to all those who work to make this event possible, with the entire Real Club Náutico team at the helm.

For his part, the Mayor of Palma, José Hila, declared that “the Copa del Rey is a mark of prestige for Palma” and expressed his gratitude to the RCNP “for organising an event of the international dimension that the Cup has, which places our city at the centre of world news during the entire week of competition”.

Programme of the 2022 Sailing King’s Cup in Mallorca

A total of nine classes will compete in the Bay of Palma in this Copa del Rey de vela 2022. Distributed in BMW ORC 1, 2, 3 and 4, ClubSwan 50, ClubSwan 42, ClubSwan 36, Herbalife J70 and the all-female class Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup, which will sail in the J80 monotype.
The first two days will be reserved for confirmation of entries and registration, whilst the races will be held from the 1st to the 6th of August, starting at 13:00. With the exception of the Herbalife J70 and Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup classes, which will start the official races on Tuesday 2 August.

The programme of social events for the 40th Copa del Rey MAPFRE includes the Cóctel de Armadores by MAPFRE, on Thursday 4th August, and the trophy presentation ceremony presided over by King Felipe, on Saturday 6th August at the Ses Voltes venue.
