Rafael Gil March was elected Thursday night as the new president of the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP). His candidacy, which takes the baton from the hitherto president Emerico Fuster, has obtained 281 votes, compared to 221 for Bartomeu Berga and 158 for Miguel Matas. The counting of the 669 votes cast (the 660 obtained by the candidates plus 9 votes declared invalid) lasted until 2:00 a.m., when the result was officially announced.
As the club itself reports on its website, the new board of directors of the RCNP has called for unity among all members at a time when the entity, founded as such in 1948 but whose roots date back to 1891, is struggling to preserve its historic facilities in the port of Palma. Rafael Gil, whose mandate will last until 2027, has placed the conservation of the concession as the absolute priority of his team, and has pledged to continue to make a strong commitment to the promotion of sport, the club’s main statutory objective. To this end, he intends to create a Municipal Sailing School with the support of Cort.
Gil March will be accompanied in his mandate by the members of his candidacy, who will become part of the new board of directors. Among them are Manolo Rigo, Alejandro López, Hugo Ramón, Antoni Castell, María Teresa Sans, Nuria Perelló, Eva Mulet, Juan Romaguera, Alicia Binimelis, Jorge Forteza, Salud Deudero, Miquel Coll, Carlos Simoncelli and Martà Salvà.
