The president of the Balearic Government, Francina Armengol, accompanied by the Councilor for Social Affairs and Sports, Fina Santiago, and along with other authorities, has recognized this Wednesday in a ceremony at the Consolat de Mar the sporting career of tennis player Rafa Nadal, who recently won his 14th Roland Garros title, and has become the male player with more Grand Slam titles, 22.
In the ceremony he was given an original lithograph by the artist Tomeu Ventayol and President Armengol has highlighted “the success story” that is the career of Rafa Nadal, “the best ambassador that this autonomous community has”. The president has defended the figure of Nadal “as a person who has been able to transmit values and be an example for the people of the Balearic Islands and around the world, not only for competing honestly and respectfully, but for his commitment to this land and its solidarity aspect”.
Rafa Nadal, a professional tennis player since 2001, is considered the best tennis player in history on clay courts. In addition to 22 Grand Slam titles, he has won two Olympic gold medals, one in singles and one in doubles. He is currently ranked fourth in the world on the ATP circuit.
The reception was attended by the president of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands, Vicenç Thomàs; the delegate of the Government, Aina Calvo; the mayors of Palma and Manacor, José Hila and Miquel Oliver, and the president of the Consell Insular de Mallorca, Catalina Cladera, among others.
