The Palma City Council has launched a new campaign to encourage animal adoption for the Christmas period, under the slogan ‘Adopt them. They too wish you a Merry Christmas’. The initiative aims to promote the responsible adoption of dogs and cats currently housed at the Municipal Animal Protection Health Centre (CSMPA) in Son Reus.

During 2025, 560 cat adoptions and 280 dog adoptions were formalised at the centre. The facilities currently house around 90 cats and 80 dogs waiting to find a permanent home.
The campaign was presented this Monday by Deputy Mayors Llorenç Bauzá de Keizer, who is responsible for the Natural Environment, Healthy Spaces, Markets and Innovation area, and Toni Deudero, Councillor for Mobility. The initiative is the result of collaboration between the Animal Welfare department and the municipal company EMT-Palma, which has made its bus fleet available to give visibility to the campaign poster across the city.
The launch event was held on Joan Maragall Street and included the participation of staff from the Son Reus centre, who attended accompanied by two of the animals currently available for adoption.
During his speech, Bauzá de Keizer recalled that pets “are not toys or a whim, not at Christmas and not at any other time of the year”, and he stressed that adopting an animal entails a long-term responsibility. In this regard, he noted that, despite the work carried out by the centre’s professionals, animals “will always be better off in a home and with a family”.
