The City Council of Palma has launched a campaign with different messages and formats to raise awareness among citizens of the need to keep clean the beaches of the city on the occasion of the celebration of the Nit de Sant Joan .

The campaign, which is being disseminated in different formats and communication channels, such as print ads, television and digital newspapers, radio spots and OPI in different parts of the city, consists of five positive messages. Specifically, there are five words that define how we should leave the beaches at the end of the party: “Beautiful”, “Chula”, “Precious”, “Beautiful” or “Wonderful”.

The aim of these messages is to draw the attention of citizens to understand the importance of being responsible and leave the beach clean after the Revetla de Sant Joan.

With this initiative it is also recalled that the last time this magical night could be celebrated (in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic) EMAYA cleaning services had to remove, the day after the celebration, up to twelve tons of garbage from the different beaches of the city’s coastline.

The mayor of Palma, Jose Hila, stressed that after two years without being able to celebrate Sant Joan, “it is an opportunity to have fun and have a good time with our friends and family, but it is also a good time to look after the environment and our beaches”.

Hila has praised the outstanding behavior of the citizens in the two years in which the Nit de Sant Joan could not be celebrated. “We had to ask them to stay away from the beaches that day and they respected it without exception. Now, it is necessary that we behave civically and leave the beach as we found it when we arrived. This campaign wants to remind us of that.

Distribution of 4,000 cloth garbage bags

Also, informers of the city council of Palma will distribute 4,000 reusable cloth bags with the slogans of the campaign, so that beach users take away the garbage left after the party. The distribution will take place on the beaches of Can Pere Antoni, Cala Major and Playa de Palma.
