The Palma Nit de l’Art celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2021 starting on September 16th. An event that “is part of the DNA of Palma, Mallorca and the European artistic calendar”, according to the president of Art Palma Contemporani, Frederic Pinya.

About 60 artists from the international scene present their works in the various exhibition spaces in Palma, Pollença and Andratx: Es Baluard Museum, the Miró Mallorca Foundation, the Sa Nostra Culture Center, Caixa Forum Palma, Can Balaguer, the Casal Solleric and Baró in Palma, in addition to the exhibitions that can be seen at the CCA Andratx and at the Galería Maior in Pollença. Painting, photography, installation and sculpture dominate the exhibition proposals with works that explore the tensions between materials and the limits of visual representation.

Among the works that you will be able to see, the CCA Andratx hosts a unique exhibition, “Insights – Art from the NATIONAL BANK Collection”, with great figures of contemporary art such as Joseph Beuys, Stephan Balkenhol, Jörg Immendorff, Katharina Grosse or Markus Lüpertz. The artist Luis Gordillo, Velázquez Prize for Plastic Arts and a leading figure in contemporary art in Spain, returns to the Maior Gallery in Pollença with a solo show. In addition, for the first time on the island, works by renowned artists such as José Dávila (Kewenig), Alicja Kwade and Gregor Hidebrandt (Pelaires) and Sidival Fila will be seen at Baró Galería.

PROGRAM NIT DE L’ART 2021

From 1997 to 2021

The first time that Palma galleries were united at midnight and open to the public was in September 1997. Since that year, Palma became the first city in the whole Spain to celebrate La Nit de l’Art. An appointment that has had great support from Majorcan society.

“I perfectly remember the first Nit de l’Art, which brought together few people”, recalls the president of the gallery owners. In the presentation of the Nit de l’Art Palma 2021, Pinya highlighted patience and perseverance, “which always ends up paying off”. Despite the fact that in the year of its birth there were few people, each edition the efforts of the organizers increased and made the Nit de l’Art go to more year after year.

“Now the Nit de l’Art is, above all, an appointment that we all have underlined on the calendar and that sets the rhythm of the city and the island for a few days. This is the great success of the Nit and its promoters. Get Palma and Mallorca to make the Nit their own and launch the message that contemporary art and culture are a great value of our society. We were pioneers in Spain, and then cities such as Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia followed us. Today we already have an international projection”, summarizes Frederic Pinya.
