The Govern of the Balearic Islands has confirmed that it will support the municipalities in the Pla region that face difficulties in water supply, by including a specific measure in the 2025 Budget Law for cases of hydrological emergency. This provision will allow the activation of direct aid for the transport of drinking water by tanker trucks, thus guaranteeing supply for essential human use in those municipalities not connected to the Govern’s main water network.
The aid will only be activated when the state of hydrological emergency is officially declared, according to Decree 54/2017, and will be exclusively aimed at covering domestic needs, not agricultural. The Govern, through the Conselleria de la Mar i del Cicle de l’Aigua, will finance the transport of water from the main network to the municipal reservoirs, provided that the town councils have previously applied all measures of the Special Action Plan for Alert and Drought Situations.
