The Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB) launches the second edition of FeMA, the Festival of Manga and Anime in Catalan in Mallorca and the rest of the islands. This event stems from the initiative to promote the use of Catalan among the younger public through expressions of Japanese culture. These include anime films and manga comics. The Manga and Anime Festival 2024 includes different activities from 15 March until 24 March, although the central date will be Saturday 16 March, with events on all the islands.

On the one hand, the Festival aims to promote and boost the culture of manga and anime comics as a portal for the promotion of the language among the younger public. On the other hand, it also aims to be a gateway to contact with Catalan publications in this genre, as well as a way of introducing screenings of anime series and films in Catalan.

Programme of the Manga and Anime Festival in Mallorca

The programme in Mallorca includes introductory workshops on manga and kanji, talks with anime and manga experts in Catalan, concerts, karaokes, costume contests, etc., and the screening of a classic anime from the Ghibli studio: El meu veí Totoro, by Hayao Miyazaki. The activities on the programme of the Manga and Anime Festival 2024 in Mallorca are free of charge.
