A selection of the best Mallorcan products meet at the Farmers’ Market in Puerto Portals. The local market that bets on local commerce, one hundred percent from the island. From April 30 to May 2, visitors will be able to fill their basket with the products of the more than twenty exhibitors located on the boulevard of the port from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with food, island crafts, plants, ceramics. All this following the sanitary measures in force in Mallorca.
Throughout the event, visitors will find carefully selected products made by island artisans: local fruits and vegetables, ceramics, cosmetics, typical sweets, etc. In addition, visitors will be able to enjoy various demonstrations such as the ceramic wheel or the painting of the siurell, transmitting the culture and tradition of the island.
As a visual sample of this tour of the island, Estefanía Pomar has made different illustrations of these local concepts that will be exhibited in characteristic mills that run through the market, highlighting the different symbols of the culture of Mallorca: the siurell, the song of the Sibyl or the ensaimada. The Farmers’ Market arises as a movement that supports the ‘zero kilometer’ or proximity product, which is produced and marketed locally.
Solidarity purchase
Within the framework of the Farmers’ Market, for yet another year, solidarity shopping is promoted through One for One: for each fruit and vegetable product purchased marked with the corresponding label, Puerto Portals will donate another to the large solidarity basket that will be delivered to the non-profit association Mallorca Sense Fam, which works to help the neediest families of the island. In the 2019 edition, more than 400 kilos of local product were collected, which were delivered to the association.
