The president of the Congress, Francina Armengol, has announced the mandate of King Felipe VI for the candidate of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to form a new Government after the round of consultations that have taken place this Monday and Tuesday at the Zarzuela Palace

The King has decided to propose the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, as candidate for the investiture as president of the Government, after the round of consultations that took place this Monday and Tuesday with the seven formations of the Congress that have come to the Zarzuela Palace. This was announced a few minutes ago at a press conference by the president of the Congress, Francina Armengol.

For her part, the president of the Congress has now to decide and propose a date for the investiture. Armengol has affirmed that she will contact Feijóo “immediately” to know his opinion and then she will make the “most appropriate” decision, she has assured.

Thus, for the first time, the Head of State has had two aspirants to the investiture; the popular Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who has the support of 172 deputies from four parties, PP, Vox, Coalición Canaria and UPN, when he needs 176 that marks the absolute majority, and the socialist Pedro Sánchez, with 171 assured supports, at the expense of the decision of the seven deputies of Junts per Catalunya.
