From 1 January, the Consell de Mallorca will significantly increase the capacity of the Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV) service, doubling the number of monthly appointments from 20,000 to 40,000 ITV appointments. This improvement is part of the new contract awarded to the company ITV Vega Baja, which will enable up to 650,000 annual inspections, a 35% increase compared to the current 480,000.
The increase will be made possible by the hiring of 55 new workers and the opening of a new station in the Son Bugadelles industrial estate in Calvià, which will begin operations in the first weeks of January with a capacity for 9,000 monthly ITV appointments. Additionally, the new system implemented will streamline inspection times, reducing waiting lists that have affected users in recent months.
New portal ITV.Mallorca.es to manage ITV appointments
The Consell has also launched a new website, ITV.Mallorca.es, where users can book appointments, select the day and time, and pay in advance, allowing them to go directly to the inspection without needing to visit the offices beforehand. This new system aims to modernise and simplify access to the service.
Process of transition and contract awarding
The change of service provider, which involves transferring data from SGS to ITV Vega Baja, is in its final stage and is expected to be fully operational by 1 January. The contract, definitively awarded in November after the resolution of several legal challenges, amounts to 33 million euros over a period of two years.
The new contract also includes the allocation of the additional staff to the existing stations in Palma, Inca, and Manacor, in addition to the new station in Calvià. In total, 30 workers will strengthen operations in Calvià, while the remaining 25 will be distributed across the other facilities.
