On Thursday, July 14, the new plenary session of the Mallorca Chamber of Commerce, the highest governing body of the Corporation, was constituted. Thus concludes a process that began on April 26 with the call for elections by the tutelary administration, the Ministry of Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory.

In this same plenary session, the candidates for the different executive positions were presented and voted on. Thus, the new president of the Chamber of Commerce for the next term (2022-2026), the businessman Eduardo Soriano, representative of the contributing company Ciments de Balears SA, has been elected.

The first and second vice-presidencies will once again fall to the same people as in the previous mandate: Carmen Planas (member appointed by CAEB) and Josep Lluís Aguiló (representative of the contributing company Hiper Manacor SA).

The position of treasurer will be held by the current president, Antoni Mercant, a member representing Baleària, a company elected by vote in group 5 transport – category 4 maritime transport.

The 5 members chosen from among the members of the Plenary to complete the new executive committee of the Mallorca Chamber of Commerce are:

  • Juan Company. Member designated by CAEB.
  • Ramon Perpigna. Representative of Carpintería Perpiñá, elected by vote in group 1 Energy and Industry, category 2 Industry.
  • Raphael Roger. Representative of Mijura, elected by suffrage in group 5 transport category 3 air transport and travel agencies.
  • Juana Mari Manresa. Representative of Cecosa Supermarkets, elected by vote in group 3 Commerce, category 3 Retail.
  • María Frontera. Representative of Marimat, S.A., elected by vote in group 4 hotels, category 1 accommodation.

The act of proclamation of the new president and the executive committee of the Chamber was attended by the president of the Government, Francina Armengol, the minister of Finance, Rosario Sánchez, the minister of the Economic Model, Tourism and Labor, Iago Negueruela, and the president of the Consell island of Majorca, Catalina Cladera.

Eduardo Soriano, in his first speech as president of the Chamber, highlighted his intention to “contribute to reinforcing the institutional value of the corporation and the island’s business network. A strong and cohesive Chamber with employers and the administration, in tune with the rest of the Balearic Chambers, will be able to carry out important initiatives that will facilitate the growth of our companies”.

The constituent session of the Plenary was chaired by the General Director of Commerce of the Government, Miquel Piñol, who highlighted that “with the elections to the Chamber of Mallorca, the electoral cycle that has renewed the three Balearic chambers concludes. All of them have been clean, transparent electoral processes based on business consensus, which will allow us to face the economic challenges of the coming months”.
