From Thursday 1 September, discounts on trains, buses and the Mallorca metro come into force. In the case of the train and metro, users who have the intermodal card will benefit from free journeys. The only requirement is to have the card to access these services. Citizens can apply for the card by going to the TIB offices with their DNI, passport or NIE, where they will also have to prove that they are registered on the Mallorca census. If this is not possible with the aforementioned document, it will be necessary to present a volete de empadronamiento (proof of census registration) issued within the last six months. For the island’s buses (TIB), discounts of up to 70% have been established.
The EMT city bus service of Palma also starts offering discounts to citizens in September. The price of season tickets will be halved at least until the end of the year. In this way, Palma becomes one of the four major Spanish cities where public transport is most heavily subsidised, along with Barcelona, Bilbao and Madrid. The season tickets would have the following prices:
- 20 journeys / 30 days residents: From 13 to 6.5 euros.
- 50 journeys / 30 days residents: From 29 to now 14.5 euros.
- Unlimited journeys / 30 resident days: From 37 to 18.5 euros.
- Students and university students / 30 days: From 20 to 10 euros.
- Reduced profile 7 to 3.5 euros.
- Large family: From 10 to 5 euros.
In order to benefit from the reduced bus passes you must have a Palma City Council citizen’s card.
The measures that allow these discounts on trains, buses and the metro in Mallorca are part of the package of measures announced by the central government and the island’s administrations to combat the effects of rising inflation.
