Members of United Airlines and the New York Tourist Office met yesterday in Palma with more than thirty travel agents to present the latest news of the route that has possibly generated more interest in Mallorca in recent years, the direct flights from New York to Palma.
According to Xisco Mulet, president of the Association of Travel Agencies of the Balearic Islands (AVIBA), to Mallorca Caprice, “North American travellers are very excited about this new direct route, as well as Balearic residents.” “Travelers from the Islands are becoming very interested in both direct flights and the different packages we offer. The strong demand has exceeded all expectations,” Mulet emphasized.
The inaugural flight from Newark airport will take place on the evening of June 3, with arrival at Palma’s Son Sant Joan airport early in the morning on June 4. On that same June 4 will be the date of the first flight departing from Palma to New York. Flights are scheduled until the end of September, with a frequency of three per week. So far, the volume of sales has been spectacular, in some cases reaching 90% occupancy.
Cruises departing from Palma are a major attraction
The Sales Director of United Airlines in Spain, Victor Andres Alvarez, has highlighted that “this direct connection between the U.S. and the Balearic Islands has made an extraordinary impact on the U.S. market.” “Mallorca has so many attractions to offer to American tourists such as sun, beach, culture, gastronomy, and something very important for them, cruises.”
It is expected that a significant number of travelers flying from New York to Palma will sail on Mediterranean cruise routes departing from Palma’s port. Regarding the continuity of the direct flight for next season, Víctor Andrés has stated that “the company’s intention is to maintain the route and consolidate it.”
