Palma City Council has enabled a special device to celebrate All Saints’ Day to facilitate access to municipal cemeteries. The device will be launched this weekend, which is when it is expected that there will be a greater flow of people towards the cemetery.

The president of the Municipal Funeral Company, Alberto Jarabo, recalled the importance of going to the cemetery in a staggered manner to avoid crowds. “This weekend we have extended the hours of the cemetery so that citizens who wish can go.”

From the Municipal Funeral Company they foresee that the days of greatest influx of public are Saturday 30, Sunday October 31 and Monday November 1. That is why there will be more backup personnel in the Palma cemetery to be able to attend and help visitors who may have difficulties accessing the burial unit they want to visit. In the Sant Jordi and Establiments cemeteries there will also be support staff on the same day 1.

The local Police will also deploy its special device to regulate its external accesses. It will also be in charge of the surveillance inside the enclosure with support patrols. The agents will also monitor other cemeteries in the city such as Sant Jordi, Establiments, Genoa and La Vileta.

More than thirty workers of the Municipal Funeral Home, gardening and other auxiliary services have been, in recent days, carrying out intensive cleaning and maintenance tasks, so that everything is ready for this date.

Schedules

As for the closing time of the enclosure, it will be extended on Saturday 30, Sunday 31 October and Monday 1 November to facilitate access for visitors. In this way, the cemetery will open its doors continuously from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Road traffic will be able to access the cemetery to facilitate access for people with mobility problems. There will be a parking reservation especially for them next to the side entrance of the cemetery.

Only those vehicles that attend funeral rooms or funerals will be able to park at the Son Valentí funeral home. EFM staff will be in charge of controlling the accessing vehicles. Entrance, parking and circulation on the Ca l’Ardiaca road will also be avoided. Depending on the volume of pedestrian traffic, the Camino de Jesús (from the cemetery roundabout to the Vía de Cintura) could be closed to traffic from time to time.

Public transport: they enable a special service

From the Town Hall it is recommended to use public transport to access the cemetery. Therefore, the EMT will enable a special launch bus service on October 30 and 31 and November 1. You will leave the Puerta de San Antonio, go through the main gate of the cemetery and reach the roundabout where the Camino de los Reyes meets the Camino de Jesús (in the Can Valero industrial park). Its frequency will be 20 minutes from 7:40 a.m. to 8:55 p.m. In the opposite direction, at the Can Valero industrial park, it will start at 07.55 a.m. until 9.10 p.m.

Agreements have been reached with private car parks of different establishments to leave their accesses open so that citizens can park their vehicles to access the cemetery on foot. These are the Carrefour hypermarket in General Riera, the Lidl supermarket on Uruguay Street, the Visit Mallorca stadium (Son Moix) and the Decathlon store on the Can Valero industrial estate.
