The Consell de Mallorca will allocate 84 million euros to a package of urgent measures, called the Plan Mallorca Protege, with the aim of mitigating the economic and social effects of the conflict in the Middle East. As the president of the island institution, Llorenç Galmés, explained during the general policy debate, the Consell is acting “with responsibility, diligence and speed” to protect families, businesses and Mallorca’s productive sectors from rising prices caused by the international situation.

This package of measures, which is expected to be approved as swiftly as possible at the plenary session scheduled for 9 April, adds to the investment already announced by the Balearic Government, which will mobilise 160 million euros, in a response that complements those of the Balearic Government and the Government of Spain.
Main measures
Among the main measures, the plan includes 9 million euros for vulnerable families to help cover basic expenses. This is in addition to 2 million euros for families with federated children under the age of 16, with the aim of offsetting sports-related expenses, and 1 million euros for clubs and federations.
The primary sector will also receive specific support, with 1 million euros allocated to agricultural cooperatives, while 2 million euros in local product consumption vouchers will be made available to encourage the local economy. In addition, the cultural and craft sectors will receive 300,000 euros in aid.
Administrative streamlining
At the same time, the Consell plans to streamline administrative procedures by bringing forward between 75% and 100% of subsidy payments, as well as reviewing public works contracts in order to update prices and extend deadlines in line with rising costs.
The plan also maintains its investment commitment in infrastructure, with 51.5 million euros allocated to the modernisation and improved sustainability of the road network, in addition to 2 million euros for the renovation of municipal sports facilities.
