The Christmas lights switch-on ceremony in Palma 2022 will take place on the 19th of November at 20:00 in the Plaza de la Reina square. This has been announced by the City Council, which has already advanced the programme of installations and shows that will take place on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of November in different shows. The event is the inaugural act of the Christmas festivities and is part of a series of shows with light as the protagonist, with seven different shows in different locations in the city centre and the Sa Feixina park.

The common thread of the 2022 lights switch-on is “movement”, as an analogy of recovery and collective activation. Especially after the last few years of restrictions. The aim is to discover light through dance, music and travel, nature, mathematics, science and the universe. Ignition 2022 is as much about tradition as it is about creativity and innovation, with two days full of amazing installations and shows.

Traditionally, the lighting ceremony is carried out by an organisation. This is a way of highlighting the work of citizens’ organisations as the driving force behind the social movement. This year it will be the Girasol association who will kick off the Christmas campaign on Saturday 19th in the Plaza de la Reina at 20:00. This is an organisation that works with people with mental health problems.
