The Christmas lights in Palma already have a turn-on date: Thursday, November 24, 2021. The illusion of Christmas lighting will reach many streets and neighborhoods this year from two days before Black Friday. This lighting of lights, approved by the Government Board by the City Council, will have a central act on November 24. Of course, as last year, different activities are maintained in various neighborhoods of Palma to decentralize the party, distribute the Christmas magic throughout the city and avoid crowds. The forecast is that some districts will have their own lighting of lights on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November.

From the Palma City Council, they are committed to maintaining the Christmas lighting as it is an element that invites you to walk and enjoy the city. And it is that this traditional lighting of lights in Palma symbolizes, as an opening act, the advancement of the Christmas festivities. An act of great significance in Palma, both due to the expectation it provokes among the neighbors and due to its repercussion on the Christmas commercial campaign. Although in this 2021, as it happened last year, its programming may suffer modifications due to the uncertainty of the health crisis of COVID-19.

More lights and a Christmas tree

Last year, the Christmas lights in Palma brought two important novelties. The first was that they reached more streets than in other years. In addition, for the first time, a 23-meter-high tree was installed in the Parque de la Mar that allowed people to walk underneath and take pictures. In total, the Christmas lights dressed 225 streets in 65 neighborhoods of Palma, of which 33 streets released new materials. Streets such as Torcuato Luca de Tena (Pere Garau), Indalecio Prieto (Son Gotleu), on the way to Son Rapinya, General Riera and Jaume Balmes had lighting last year.

For this year, the Government Board approved in August the administrative clauses and technical prescriptions to contract the lighting of Christmas lights and the shows that will be part of the lighting in 2021. It did so through a negotiated procedure without advertising. The objective is to give continuity to the past editions. To do this, it is intended to create an itinerary with different visual light shows. Among them, projections, maps, artistic installations, sculptural elements, artistic performances, etc. in different parts of the city. In this way, citizens will be able to enjoy the different shows of the traditional lighting of Christmas lights in Palma.
