The Consell de Mallorca is inaugurating the Casa Blai Bonet in Santanyí this Friday 14th June, which aims to become Mallorca’s temple of poetry. The opening ceremony, which takes place at 8:30 p.m., will feature the participation of actor Toni Gomila, poets Antoni Vidal Ferrando and Tonina Canyelles and the music of Joana Gomila, as well as a surprise artistic intervention.

The new centre has two main areas: the first corresponds to Blai Bonet’s old house, known as Can Blai, which has been renovated and transformed into a museum space and a multipurpose room. The second is a new construction, the Poeteca building, which houses the archive, the poetry library, and two rooms for artists’ and writers’ residences. A courtyard connects the two buildings and will serve as a stage for various open-air cultural activities.

Casa Blai Bonet. Centre de poesia

It should be remembered that the Casa Blai Bonet. Centre de poesia is a project that began in 2002 with the acquisition of the poet’s birthplace by the Consell de Mallorca. In 2009 a competition was held for preliminary projects for the renovation and refurbishment of the space, with RAOR, by architect Biel Arbona, winning. The construction work was awarded in 2019 to the company Sort d’Enfora SL, and was completed in 2023, when the fitting out and installation of the furniture and the assembly of the museum project began.
