The Canamunt and Canavall 2023 festivities reach their climax with the water battle between Canamunt and Canavall. It will take place on Sunday 10 September in the Parc de la Mar, thus returning to the location of the famous battle of flags. Those attending the big water battle will be able to buy their T-shirts (pink or yellow) at the Botiga Melicotó in Blanquerna street for 10 euros. A stall has also been set up from Monday to Thursday from 18:00 to 20:30 at Porta Pintada.

Canamunt and Canavall 2023 Water Battle

The event is one of the most eagerly awaited of the summer in Palma, where the attendees are equipped with water pistols in the colours of the two sides. The preview of the water battle will begin on Sunday at 4 pm, with the Canamunt and Canavall gangs meeting in their usual squares (Sant Jeroni and Plaça Drassana). A brass band and batucada will lead the gangs until the battle begins at 17:00 in the Parc de la Mar.

The programme of the Fiestas de Canamunt and Canavall 2023, prepared by Orgull Llonguet, includes the hanging of coats of arms, on Friday at 19:30 at Cort. Also the dinner of brotherhood of gangs, which will be held at Ses Voltes from 20:30. Finally, on Monday the 4th of September, the burial of Berga will take place in the street of Sant Pere Nolasc, bringing the celebration to a close. Those attending will wear black and carry a candle. The meeting takes place at numbers 11-13, the original place where Judge Berga was murdered. This act marks the end of the festival, peace and truce.

The history of this water battle of Canamunt and Canavall recreates the confrontation between the two noble factions that took place in Palma and Mallorca at the end of the 16th century: Canamunt and Canavall.

The City Council is coordinating the necessary arrangements to ensure that the celebration goes off without incident. Traffic restrictions are expected to be imposed on Sunday.
