The 2024-2025 flu and COVID-19 vaccination campaign has officially begun today across health centers in the Balearic Islands. The main objective of this initiative is to increase vaccination coverage among high-risk groups, aiming to improve the levels achieved in previous years.
Citizens can schedule their vaccination appointments through the InfoSalut Connecta phone line (971 22 00 00) or via the official website (grip.caib.es), where they can also find information about walk-in vaccination times, which will be available starting on November 4 at 16 health centers and at Can Misses Hospital (Ibiza) and Mateu Orfila Hospital (Maó).
Target Population
The campaign primarily targets people over the age of 60 and younger individuals who have specific risk conditions. In the Balearic Islands, the target population for flu vaccination is estimated at around 606,685 people, and for COVID-19, approximately 458,323 individuals.
The priority groups for vaccination include:
- People over 60 years old.
- Residents in nursing homes or disability centers.
- People with chronic diseases.
- Pregnant women.
- Healthcare and essential public service workers.
Pilot Vaccination Program in Schools and Childhood Vaccination
A key new initiative this year is the pilot vaccination program in schools, which will be implemented in 24 educational centers across the Balearic Islands. Additionally, universal vaccination for children between 6 and 59 months will be offered until November 14.
Children under 2 years of age will receive an injectable vaccine, while older children up to nearly 5 years old will receive a nasal flu vaccine.
Combined Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination
Following the approach of previous campaigns, individuals recommended for flu vaccination can also receive the COVID-19 vaccine simultaneously. This includes individuals with risk conditions, healthcare workers, pregnant women, and those living with immunocompromised individuals.
This combined effort aims to protect the most vulnerable populations and mitigate the impact of both viruses in the upcoming months.
