Mallorca celebrates the Feast of the Assumption this Saturday, 15th August, with 81 Beds of the Virgin on display in churches across the island. Palma will have 24 monuments and the Part Forana another 57, while the cultural programme includes visits, music, dance, talks and traditional religious celebrations.
The Feast of the Assumption in Mallorca 2026 will once again fill churches and places of worship with the traditional Beds of the Virgin Mary. The Consell de Mallorca and the Bishopric of Mallorca have confirmed that 81 monuments will be open to visitors across the island this year.
The main day of the celebration is Saturday, 15th August, although some activities begin on Friday 14th and others will continue over the following days.
Of the total number of Beds of the Virgin prepared this year, 24 are in Palma and 57 in different municipalities of the Part Forana.
81 Beds of the Virgin in Mallorca
The 2026 figure matches last year’s total and confirms the recovery and consolidation of this tradition following the pandemic.
In Palma there will be 24 Beds of the Virgin, compared with 17 installations in 2022 and 20 in both 2023 and 2024. The figure rose to 24 in 2025 and remains unchanged this year.
In the Part Forana, 57 Beds of the Virgin can be visited. In recent years there were 50 in 2022, 56 in 2023, 58 in 2024 and 57 in 2025.
What’s new for the Beds of the Virgin in 2026?
The main changes this year are outside Palma.
One of the highlights is the return of the monument in Santa Eugènia, which once again forms part of the celebration.
Meanwhile, the Bed of the Virgin at the convent of Sant Vicenç Ferrer in Manacor is no longer included in the 2026 exhibition route.
In Palma, the installations introduced in recent editions have become established at the churches of Monti-sion, Santa Teresa de Jesús, Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Son Cladera and Santa Teresa del Niño Jesús in Son Armadans.

The exhibition of the Beds of the Virgin is complemented by a cultural and religious programme taking place at different locations across Mallorca.
Friday, 14th August
Santa Maria del Camí
5:30 pm. Talk entitled The Feast of the Assumption and the Bed of the Dead Virgin Mary: between history and legend, by Dr Maria del Camí Dols Martorell, from UIB-IEHM.
Mallorca Cathedral
8:00 pm. Solemn Vespers sung by the Capella de la Seu. This will be followed by the transfer of the dead Virgin Mary from the high altar to the catafalque, the singing of the Salve and a selection of Marian pieces.
Saturday, 15th August
Montuïri
6:30 pm. The Cossiers begin their route through the town. During the procession, they will perform the Gentil Senyora dance in front of the Bed of the Virgin Mary inside the church of Sant Bartomeu.
Muro
8:00 pm. El vuelo mágico, a contemporary dance and sound art performance incorporated into the Assumption liturgy at the church of Sant Joan Baptista.
Participants include musician and anthropologist Txema González, choreographer Mar Aguiló, organist Rafel Riera and artist Carlos Anguera.
Tuesday, 18th August
Palma
8:15 pm. Presentation of the Esplendor de la Mediterrània award at the church of Sagrados Corazones.
The church is also hosting the installation Sancta Maria, Regina Apostolorum, by Mn. Nadal Bernat, until that day. It can be visited from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Wednesday, 19th August
Palma
7:00 pm. Round-table discussion entitled The Feast of the Assumption, intangible heritage of Mallorca, organised by ARCA at Ca n’Oleo, 4 Carrer Almudaina.
The Assumption at the Museu de Mallorca
The Museu de Mallorca offers a self-guided visit through its permanent exhibition to discover four works linked to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Admission is free. The museum is open on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. It is closed on Mondays and public holidays.
When is the Feast of the Assumption celebrated in Mallorca?
The Feast of the Assumption is celebrated on 15th August, when numerous churches across Mallorca display the traditional Beds of the Virgin.
The 2026 programme, however, extends over several days, with activities running from 14th until at least 19th August.
This Saturday, one of the main attractions will once again be the opportunity to visit churches in Palma and municipalities across Mallorca to see the 81 Beds of the Virgin prepared for the 2026 celebration.
